Gerhard Roux
posted 38 points on Saturday to take a slender lead in round one of the
Workwear Depot sponsored 2016 New Year’s Cup. Familiar names followed on 37
points, the count out deemed Luchmen Poonawassy second, William Orton third,
Barend Burger fourth, Steven Turner fifth, AJ du Rand sixth and Theuns Barnard
seventh. Three players posted 36 points with a further seven on 35 points. The
final round is scheduled for the coming Saturday. The aggregate score for the
two days will count towards the overall recognition with prizes also awarded to
the leading players on each Saturday. One prize giving, to cover all, will be
held the coming Saturday.
Tenderson Manyetsa
posted 20 points to take the Sun Flamingo Niner on Friday. Dean Schonegevel and
Wedge Crozier were second and third on 19 points. Vuyu Klaas and Helena Janse
were fourth and fifth on 18 points.
Despite an early
black-out, a six pointer at the 17th gave Machiel Cronje the
required surge to reach 23 points and a comfortable win in the KWV Powerplay
Niner on Thursday. Mashudu Tseisa returned 21 points for second place. Ant
Crozier, who posted a big six at the par three 14th, was third on 20
points. The KWV Roodeberg 3 litre draw that included all the powerplay
achievers through the past six weeks was won by Wedge Crozier.
On Wednesday Dries
du Plessis and Gavin van Zyl each returned 34 points to finish first and second
in the opening Darsha Insurance Brokers IPS for 2016. Neville Alexander was
third with Harry Welham fourth.
A birdie on the
par four 8th gave Jehan Richards the edge in the count out to take
the Cleveland Golf Super Six Tournament on Tuesday evening. The runner up was
Christiaan Voight. Both players returned 15 points. A further count out on 13
points deemed Dicky Thomas third and Allan Meyer first reserve.
This week the KGC
offers an IPS on Wednesday, the KWV Powerplay Niner on Thursday, the Sun
Flamingo Niner and CTCS draw on Friday and the final round of the Workwear
Depot New Year’s Cup on Saturday.
2016 Sealing
Solutions Sunday League team entries are due by 27 January, the first round to
be played on 28 February. Similarly the 2016 Konica Minolta Business League
team entries are due by 4 February the opening round to be played 11 February.
