KGC Report 3 July
2016
Saturday’s July
monthly medal marked the eve of the 126th birthday of the Kimberley
Golf Club. Despite the cold celebratory conditions on offer Calvyn Orton
managed a net 67 to win best net overall. Adrian Mclaren posted best net A
division on 69. Nico Jacobs, who carded the best gross on the day – a level par
72, was the runner up on 70. Henk Brand recorded the best net B division on 74
with Wayne Olivier the runner up on 75.
Wade King, alone
on 22 points, was a clear winner of the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner. Neville
Alexander and Keith Brown were second and third, each on 20 points. While Henk
Visser and Conrad Fortune were fourth and fifth, each on 19 points.
On Thursday Hermus
Venter returned a gross 35, a big six at the 16th, 22 points on the day and the
better count out to claim the KWV Powerplay Niner. OJ Maimane was the runner up
on the same score, with LJ Thomane third on 20 points. Both players scored a
big six. Outside of the prize winners Herby Woodridge and Dave Wilson also
recorded a big six each.
Wednesday proved a
red letter day for Pieter Roux du Toit. Playing into a slight wind on the par 3
eleventh, he opted to change from an eight to a seven iron and promptly struck
the perfect shot to record his first hole in one on the KGC.
The hole measures
144 metres from the rating marker.
Wednesday’s Santam
Golf Day was won by Gavin van Zyl on 39 individual stableford points. Three
players returned 37 points. The count out deemed Kevin Collings second, Nico
Ross third and Dries du Plessis first reserve.
This week the KGC
offers the Darsha IPS Wednesday, the KWV Niner Thursday and the Sun Flamingo
Niner Friday. On Saturday it is the Senior Presidents Day, a betterball
stableford.
