On Saturday evening Tinus Venter was presented with the prestigious burgundy blazer

that goes with the title – the 2015 MVD Kalahari Town Planning Masters Champion. The

fit was as tight as the tournament in which just five strokes separated the top 11 players.

At the end of the morning round Garth Lee led the field on net 65 with no less than 20 players on net 72 or better. Tinus Venter (68), Faan Rheeder (68) and Adrian McLaren (69) were his closest competitors.

It was the afternoon round that separated the winners from the challengers. Ultimately a net 71 from Venter saw him return an aggregate 139, one shot clear of the field. Nico Ross, on 140, was the runner up. The remaining prize winners were Gavin Oliver and Hanru Duvenhage (141), Luchmen Poonawassy and Adrian McLaren (142), Joshua Edwards and Nigel Page (143) and Yusuf Kana, Pieter Botes and Faan Rheeder (144).

In the Masters Plate John Lankester claimed the count out and the competition, Joanie Herselman was the runner up. Both players returned 38 individual stableford points.

In the NC Seniors outing Don Fielding and Clive Holloway were the winners. Pat Ansley and John Lankester were the runners up with Derek Potgieter and Chris Roux third.

Friday’s Flamingo Casino Niner saw Denver van Heerden the winner, alone on 21 

points. Bernie Bennett (19), Parks Mashaboa (17), Peter Salo (17) and Luchmen Poonawassy (16) were the remaining four prize winners.

Mali Manana (20), Braam Botes (19) and Ant Crozier (18) were the KWV Niner winners on Thursday.

The focus moved towards team recognition in the opening round of the 2015 Konica Minolta Business League played on Wednesday. The top three teams each returned 45 betterball points. The count out deemed “Be the star you are” represented by Tinus and Hermus Venter first, “Konica Minolta” represented by Wikus Kok and Sean Ellison second and “The Halfway House” represented by John Lankester and Lennie Allen third.

Hermus Venter and Gareth Edwards were first and second in the individual section, each on 40 points. The former carded a level par gross 72 while the latter went one better to finish one under par on gross 71.

This week the KGC hosts the Wednesday Darsha Insurance IPS and the Thursday Spur Junior Challenge as well as the KWV Niner. On Friday there is the Premiers Golf Day Friday mid - morning and the Northern Cape Senior Trials game Friday afternoon. At the weekend it is the Northern Cape Championships over 54 holes Saturday and Sunday.

After an opening 18 point gain Crackers enjoyed the most success in the A section of the Sunday Sealing Solutions League. They were followed by Sealing Solutions, just one and a half points behind, on 16.5. In the B section it was league newcomers, the Playas, who led the challenge on 18.5 points, closely followed by Pretenders on 16 points.

Despite his Friday’s disappointment on Saturday Bernie Bennett posted a 68 to claim the Best Net Overall and the February 2015 Rhodes Mug. Machiel Cronje and Mike Vigne respectively returned the best net A and B division, both players on 69. Likewise Pieter Botes and Deon Nel respectively finished runners up in the A and B divisions, both players on net 70. Andries Kori carded the low round of the day, a gross 74.

Young Fareez Alexander, on 21 points, won the Friday Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner. Andries Kori (20), Christarico Gordon (20), Don Whitebooi (19) and Ramnath Poonawassy (19) were remaining prize winners.

Nico Ross returned 20 points to claim the Thursday KWV Niner. Kevin Wakeford and Machiel Cronje were second and third, each on 18 points.

A count out on 36 points saw Wikus Kok win the monthly Leons House of Liquor IPS on Wednesday. Siewert Wiid was the runner up. Barend Burger was third on 35 points.

This week Wednesday it is the opening round of the 2015 Konica Minolta Business League. Thursday sees the start to the 2015 Spur Junior Challenge. There is also a KWV Niner. On Friday there is a Flamingo Casino Niner and the CTCS draw. Saturday sees the first KGC major, the 2015 MVD Kalahari Town Planning Masters. The format is medal net over 36 holes played from a seeded draw. Golf cars wll be allowed. There will also be a Masters Plate on offer for those outside the event. It is, too, the February Seniors outing.
