Kimberley Golf Club Report 13 September 2014

The final Engelsman Magabane outing played on Saturday signaled the end of the 2014 Challenge. The results, calculated on the aggregate stableford points for the best five of the six rounds, saw just one point separate the top three players. A count out was required to determine Luchmen Poonawassy (190) first and Bloemfontein’s Marvin Torres (190) second. Christo Swanepoel (189) was third.

Individual best performances were a feature of the week at the KGC and no less on Saturday.

Kabelo Leburu, a new member, returned 46 individual stableford points to receive first prize for the day and a complimentary six shot handicap cut from the HNA. Christo Swanepoel, who in a strong bid for the overall challenge shot a gross 73, was the runner on 42 points. Oppel Myburg and OJ Maimane were third and fourth, each on 41 points.

Donald Whitebooi equaled his personal best gross on Friday, a 77, which converted to 46 individual stableford points and a clear win in the annual NG Kerk Bakenskop Church Fundraiser. Bobo de Villiers was the runner up on 41 points. Matthys Heyns and Attie van Niekerk were third and fourth, each on 39 points. The final prize winners were Peter Raubenheimer and Johan Herselman on 38 on a count out.

Bobo Mentor carded a second consecutive gross 40, this time on the front nine, for 23 points to win the Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner on Friday. OJ Maimane (22), Leon Blom (21), Susan Alexander (20) and Neville Alexander (20) were the remaining prize winners.

Playing off a seventeen handicap Bobo Mentor returned a gross 40 on the back nine for 24 individual stableford points to comfortably take the KWV Niner on Thursday. Machiel Cronje was second on 20 points followed by Braam Botes on 19 points.

OJM represented by OJ Maimane and Donald Hlakudi posted 48 betterball points to win Wednesday’s Konica Minolta Business League monthly outing. OJ Maimane also topped the individual section on 42 points. Gareth Murray was the runner up on 41 points after carding a personal best gross 72 (33/39). Donald Hlakudi and Gavin van Zyl were third and fourth, each on 40 points.

This week the KGC will host the Darsha IPS on Wednesday, the Spur Junior Challenge and KWV Niner on Thursday and the Knights Cricket Golf Day on Friday. On Saturday it is the Chante Marais Rag Queen fundraiser.
