Weekly Newsletter 15 September -21 September 2014

On Saturday morning Henk Brand lived up to his name as he set the course alight with a level par gross 36 on the back nine for 25 individual stableford points. His total tally, 41 points, earned him first prize in the Chante Marais Rag Queen Golf Fundraiser. A two under par gross 70 for 40 points and a successful count saw Stiaan Hugo second. Luchmen Poonawassy, who lost that count, was third. Nigel Page, who returned a gross 75, was fourth on 39 points.

Suspense and surprise underlined the results in Friday’s Chevrolet Knights Cricket Golf Day, a fourball alliance with a varied format used in calculating the result on each hole, only made known to the players after all the cards were submitted. Ultimately the calculations revealed Alister Edwards, Wayne Schonegevel, P Derks and W Coetser the winners on 50.5 points. Colin Sorour, Quinton Friend, Gary Strobel and Nick Efstathiou were second on 48.5 points. Willie Uys, Kevin Anthill, Neville and Susan Alexandetr were third on 47.25 on a count out from fourth placed Barend Burger, Kevin Collings, Johan van Heerden and Tim Hendon.
Dave Wilson (22), Andries Kori (21), Hermus Venter (20), Luchmen Poonawassy (20) and Parks Mashaboa (20) were the Friday Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner winners. Andries Kori produced the best gross on the day, a two under par 34.

Neville Alexander recorded his first ever eagle Thursday afternoon holing out an eight iron on the par four second for two. A five pointer he went on to return 22 points to win the KWV Niner. Machiel Cronje and Parks Mashaboa were second and third respectively, each on 19 points.

Divan Snyders returned 21 points to win the Spur Junior Challenge mid Thursday afternoon.
JJ Pretorius was the runner up on 18 points after returning a 39 gross, the best round of the day shared by Dean Schonegevel.

Joanie Herselman posted 41 individual stableford points to win the Darsha Insurance Broker monthly IPS competition on Wednesday. This was on a count out from Theo Fourie. Kevin Collings was third on 39 points.

This week is a particularly busy week at the KGC. Wednesday’s public Holiday sees the GWK Griqua Rugby Golf Day supported by Engen with morning and afternoon times available. The annual GBADS Classic is scheduled for Thursday. On Friday it is the Kimberley Boys High School Golf Day. This will be followed by a Flamingo Casino Niner. On Saturday William Pescod hold their annual Golf Fundraiser. All these events attract large outside entries and in the instance of the GBADS Classic several overseas competitors. On Sunday it is the Sealing Solutions League, the format greensomes.
