Kimberley Golf Club Report 29 September 2014

Sunday’s Sealing Solutions A League results were reasonably evenly balanced. Rugar Distributors enjoyed the foremost gain, 12 points. This ensured their number one position on the leaderboard on a cumulative 39 points, with Lenong second on 34 points and the Golf Shop third on 33 points.
In the B League it was Sealing Solutions, Pretenders and C-Pac who all enjoyed a material points gain. These teams also dominate the leaderboard on a cumulative 37, 35 and 29 points respectively.

The annual William Pescod High School Golf Fundraiser Saturday, a betterball stableford, attracted 140 golfers. Early morning player Pat Ansley was ultimately first on 41 points on a count out. Losing that count out and the runner up on the day was Alisdair McKenzie. Four players followed on 39 points; Kyle van der Ross, Flex Rantoa, Peter Salo and Jody van Wyk.

Saturday also saw the outstanding semi-final of the Mellins i Style betterball matchplay championships (Blacklaws Trophy) played. Chris van Tonder and Pierre Wasserman beat Pieter Botes and William Orton one up after eighteen.   

Blacklaws Cup, the Friday’s annual Kimberley Boys High School Golf Fundraiser, a betterball stableford, was won by Kassie Potgieter and Marius Stols on 45 points. Three betterballs followed on 44 points; Kabelo Leburu and OJ Maimane, John Lankester and Dave Wilson and Tinus and Hermus Venter. Les Garret and Michael Joseph from Gauteng were fifth on 43 points.

Andries Kori was the outright winner of the Friday Flamingo Casio Niner. Bernie Bennett (17),
Donald Whitebooi (16), Dariaan van Niekerk (16) and Luchmen Poonawassy (15) were second to fifth.

The annual GBADS Classic with 23 teams and 92 players most of whom are drawn from around the country, but, also include several from European countries saw Mondez Consultants claim both the coveted Starstreak Cup and the overall trophy for 2014. A medal net American Scramble played off a limited handicap their score was 55.3. The runners up were Rheinmetall Air Defence on 57.7. 10 Anti- Aircraft Regiment were third 57.9. DISS 2 were fourth on 58.8 and Konica Minolta were fifth on 59.2.      
Machiel Cronje continued to successfully add to his cellar after winning Thursday’s KWV Niner on a count out. Clive Holloway was the runner up in that count out. Both players returned 19 points. Nico Ross was third on 18 points.

Brandon Ralph posted 22 points to win Thursday’s Spur Junior Challenge. Hermus Venter returned the best gross on the day, a level par 36.

The GWK Griqua Rugby Golf Day supported by Engen attracted150 golfers. Three betterballs returned the winning score, 50 points. The format was a betterball stableford played from a scramble drive. The count out deemed Gary Hepburn and Derek Potgieter first, Kobus van Zyl and D Le Grange second and OJ Maimane and Kabelo Leburu third. Two betterballs were just one point behind on 49 points, Dries du Plessis and Kevin Collings and Willie and Sandra Wiid.   

This week the KGC hosts the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS Wednesday followed by the Spur Junior Challenge and the KWV Niner on Thursday. On Friday it is the ‘Griekwaland-Wes Learskool Rugby Unie’ Golf Day, an extraordinary event with R30 000 worth of prizes. The format is betterball stableford played from a scramble drive. On Saturday it is the Seeff Reach for a Dream sponsored Rhodes Medal.
