Kimberley Golf Club Report 5 October 2014
On Saturday Jaco Buys returned the best net overall, a 67, to claim the
October 2014 Rhodes Mug, a place in the Rhodes Challenge Cup final and entry to
the 2015 Masters. Brenton Marthinus won the best net A division on 68 with
Danie Calitz the runner up on net 69 on a count out. Berthus Theron won best
net B division on 72 on a count out from runner up Wade King. Nico Ross carded
the best gross on the day, a 74.
Susan Alexander won Saturday’s Ladies Medal and Putting competition
after returning a net 75 and just 28 putts.
Although the full results of the Sishen Open played Saturday and Sunday
over three rounds are not to hand there were at least two memorable shots
played by KGC juniors; Joshua Edwards holed out his second shot on the long par
four third hole (stroke 1) for an eagle and Hermus Venter holed out his tee
shot at the par three 17th for a hole on one.
Friday’s Griqualand West Junior Schools Rugby Union Golf Day saw 88
players participate in
a very successful golf fundraiser. A betterball stableford played from
a scramble drive the winning results were particularly tight. Ultimately Gavin
van Zyl and Kevin Collings returned 50 betterball points to pip the field by a
single point. Four betterballs returned 49 points; Virgil Fredericks and Peter
Mills, Henk Brand and Gerhard Buys, OJ Maimane and Kabelo Laburu and Lionel
Jacobs and Palmer Thompson. In all the prizes paid down to 12th
place.
Susan Alexander posted 19 points for an outright win in the Friday
Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner. Donald Whitebooi, Jaco Janse, Neville
Alexander and Thuso Dichaba were the remaining prize winners.
Chris van Tonder returned 23 points to comfortably claim the KWV Niner
on Thursday. A count out on 20 points determined Braam Botes second and Nico
Ross third.
Gerwin Human posted 18 points to take the Spur Junior Challenge on
Thursday. His gross 40 was matched by Dean Schonegevel, the best medal rounds
on the day.
Harry Welham carded a gross 78 to post an unmatched 43 individual
stableford points and a comfortable win in the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS
Wednesday. Kevin Collings, who returned
a silimar gross, was second on 40 points. Dave Benade was third on 38
points.
This week it is the 18 hole Spur Junior Challenge over three rounds
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Konica Minolta Business League is on
Wednesday afternoon and the KWV Diamond Niner is on Thursday. On Friday it is
the NG Kerk Kimberley golf fundraiser. On Saturday it is the St Andrews
Presbyterian Church golf fundraiser.
