March Weekly Newsletter - 4 to 8 March 2015

The Golf Shop claimed a record 21 points in Sunday’s Sealing Solutions League outing.
Happy Hookers and Molinari’s, also in the A League, followed on with 17 points each.
Lenong led the B League on the day with a 20 gain, the remaining teams sharing the honours.

Luchmen Poonawassy posted a net 69 to win the March 2015 Monthly Medal and Rhodes Mug on Saturday. Adrian McLaren posted the best net in the A division, a 70. Andries Kori was the runner up on 71. Playing off scratch his one under par gross score was also the low round of the day. Mietie Aysen won best net B division on a count out from Fires van Vuuren. Both players returned a net 70.

Concurrently in the Ladies Section Dalina Schoeman cleaned up in both the Medal and the Putting competitions.

The first of the Mellins i Style betterball matchplay matches (Blacklwas Trophy) were concluded at the weekend. Donald Whitebooi and Cedric van der Ross enjoyed a convincing 5 and 3 win over Henk Visser and Joshua Edwards while Helena and Jaco Janse saw off Gavin Williams and Dave Wilson at the 17th 2 and 1.

Eddie Barkhuizen returned 20 points, the top score, in Fridays Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner. The remaining prize winners all returned 19 points. The count out deemed Luchmen Poonawassy, Flexx Rantoa, Peter Salo and Hermus Venter second to fifth respectively.

OJ Miamane and Braam Botes each returned 20 points along with a count out of 11 to take the KWV Niner on Thursday. Machiel Cronje was third on 20 points, his count out 10.

Rudi Dexter returned 43 individual stableford points to take the Engen GWK Griqua Rugby Golf Day on Wednesday evening. JJ Hanekom was the runner up on 42 points. Deon Klopper was third on 40 points in account out from Oppel Myburgh. Garth Lee, Neels Snyders and JJ Botha all followed on 38 points.

With the newly introduced opportunity for “Forward Tees” for Senior players at the KGC and the relevant sections of the SAGA Handicap Manual (Section 14 and 17), the recalculated Length Rating from the forward tees is a 66. Players moving forward must, therefore, deduct 5 from their current handicaps and not 3 as originally mooted.

This week Wedenesday the KGC hosts the Konica Minolta Business League round two with the emphasis on the team results based on a betterball stableford. On Thursday there is the
Spur Junior Challenge followed by the KWV Niner. On Friday the Flamingo Casino Niner offers the final opportunity to sharpen up before the 2015 OJM Club Championships played over 36 holes Saturday. The event offers three divisions in which several of the Clubs finest trophies are presented - the 1906 Dewar Shield, the 1898 Robert English Shield and the 1907 Ricketts Trophy. A seeded draw will be made and golf cars are allowed
