Kimberley Golf Club Report 22 March 2015
Although Gauteng players may have dominated the Northern Cape Open played at the Sishen Golf Club at the weekend there was still keen focus on the local players who were presented with their last opportunity to earn provincial selection to the Country Districts Team.
Gautengs’s Tegan Moore carded 73, 70, 71 and 68 to finish on 282, six under par, one ahead of the runner up Marco Loubser.  Upington GC’s Bertie Strydom, who finished ninth, was the leading NC player on 292. However, his limited rounds as a whole counted against his selection to the provincial team. The final Northern Cape Country District team makers included Riaan Coetzee (Hartswater GC), Alan Toy (Sishen GC), Shosho Mokwatlai (Sishen GC), Ludwig Albutt (Sishen GC), Nico Jacobs (KGC), Andries Kori (KGC), Deon Kruis (KGC) and Steven Turner (KGC).
At home at the KGC on Saturday rough weather conditions affected the closing nine of the morning field and the opening nine of the afternoon field. Reasonably modest returns in the Workwear Depot sponsored IPS were the result.
In the end it took a single stroke to determine the final results – a six iron, second shot into the wind and into the hole on the par four eighth. The five individual stableford points earned saw Dickie Thomas leap to the top of the leader board on 39 points.  Shane Arthur was the runner up on 38 points followed by Eddie Barkhuizen on 37 and Hanru Duvenhage on 36.
Gavin Oliver, on 20 points, was a clear winner in Friday’s Flamingo Casino Meat and Slots Niner. Ruan Marais (19), Peter Salo (18), Susan Alexander (17) and Eddie Barkhuizen (17) were the remaining prize winners.
The ever present Machiel Cronje won the KWV Niner Thursday afternoon. A count out determined that Donald Hlakudi was second and Dave Benade third.
Wednesday specialist Barend Burger posted 37 points along with a keen count to win the Darsha Insurance Brokers monthly IPS. Kevin Collings, also on 37 points, was the runner up.  Gavin van Zyl was third on 36 points.
This week the KGC offers the Annabell’s BBS Wednesday, the Spur Junior Challenge and KWV Niner Thursday and the Flamingo Casino Niner along with the CTCS draw Friday. At the weekend it is the Stepping Stones Golf Fundraiser on Saturday and the Sealing Solutions League on Sunday.
